The following are test results from Dr. William C. LaCourse, Professor of Glass Science at the Institute for Glass Science and Engineering at Alfred University, New York, an independent testing laboratory. Dr. LaCourse is an expert in the study of glass and ceramics. He has done testing for major companies like PPG and Kohler. Below is a summary of the most important findings of his tests. Dr. LaCourse states in his reports that our improved process has a remarkably low coefficient of friction when the glass is wet. He states that when glass is wet, it is by far the "most dangerous period" with regards to the potential for damage. The report says that "we believe that the (main) usefulness of your coating lies in its maintenance of a low friction coating over the life of the glass". Below is a formula that puts into layman's terms the results of the coefficient of friction tests.
To make the test results for coefficient of friction useful, we have used a formula that translates the data into the force required to cause damage to the surface. Assume that a load of 10 lbs. has been placed on the rider under static conditions, and that this is the lowest load that caused cracking (no dragging). Using the formula we can now calculate the load that would cause cracking to occur when the rider is dragged across the sample. Load required to damage surface:
Note that when comparing wet vs. wet friction calculations indicate that it would take more than 10 times the load (4.0 lbs. vs. 0.37 lbs.) to cause damage on your treated sample vs. the untreated. In other words, the weight of a debris particle required to crack a piece of glass that has been treated with Diamon-Fusion® would need to be ten times heavier than the weight required to crack an untreated piece of glass.
What to Look for in Good Auto Glass ReplacementIs it becoming increasingly difficult to see through your windshield? You may have a chip (or several), a crack, or simple pitting from blowing sand. All of these conditions reduce your overall visibility and need to be addressed. The best option is to have a replacement by an auto glass Glendale company. In theory, windshield replacement should be fairly easy, right? You pop out the old windshield, put a little glue on, and place the new windshield on the car. Actually, there’s quite a bit more involved with safe windshield replacement in Glendale. First, you need a company that is a member of the National Glass Association. This association is concerned with making sure that windshield replacement is done correctly and safely. They offer regular training and information on safe glass replacement, as well as new technologies to make sure the windshield is safely repaired. A good windshield replacement Glendale company also endorses the Auto Glass Replacement Safety Standard (AGRSS). This means that the company complies with safety standards for repair – this isn’t something that windshield repair companies must agree to, rather it’s an option, but one that is very important for you and your passenger safety. Next, make sure the windshield replacement Glendale company complies with the car manufacturers recommended urethane adhesive. Car makers suggest the best type of adhesive for their windshield – remember, the windshield not only keeps you in the car during an accident, but it also provides structural integrity to the car by supporting the roof. You don’t want to use an adhesive that will result in your windshield popping out. During the replacement, the auto glass Glendale company must completely remove any of the old sealant that was on the windshield. When the old adhesive is removed, the new adhesive will bond correctly with the vehicle and the glass. Before the glass is placed on the vehicle, it should be first cleaned and primed. Again, this helps to make sure
the glass adheres properly when in place. As you can see, it’s important that a qualified windshield replacement Glendale company performs any glass repair. It’s too easy for a discount company to rush through the steps. If any step is missed, it could result in a real safety hazard. Take the time to find a good auto glass replacement company – your windshield is too important to take chances.
